A total of BGN 36 million has been granted to our country so far to overcome the consequences of natural disasters

 

A little over BGN 3.4 million granted by the “Solidarity” fund under the second request for financial support has been invested in Vratsa region to repair damages in the municipalities of Mizia, Byala Slatina, Vratsa, and Mezdra caused by the floods in 2014. The granted funds have been used to restore units of the transport and water supply infrastructure damaged by the floods on 31 July.

Within the project of Mizia municipality, which was damaged the most by the disaster, the passing ability of the Skat river was restored, by removing over 98 thousand cub.m of deposits from the river bed for this purpose. The total verified and paid out funds for the four projects amount to over BGN 3.46 million, representing nearly 90% of the granted aid from the European commission amounting to BGN 3.88 million.

Results of the implementation of restoration operations were reported by the National coordinator of aid from the “Solidarity” fund of the EU in a report submitted to the EC in the month of August 2017.

Up to 1 December of this year, a report is to be submitted also about the implementation of aid provided for dealing with damages from the disaster associated with heavy winter conditions from late January 2015.

As a member state of the European union, Bulgaria has the right to receive support from the “Solidarity” fund for overcoming of consequences of natural disasters. Until now, Bulgaria has applied with three requests before the European commission for granting of gratuitous financial aid from the “Solidarity” fund. The three applications were approved by the EC, and the granted aid amounts to a total of BGN 36 million. A total of 44 projects have been approved for covering of a part of urgent measures to overcome the consequences of three disasters: the two floods from the month of June until the end of July 2014 and the disaster associated with heavy winter conditions in early 2015.
