The strengthening of the landslide before the Zheleznitsa tunnel on the Struma motorway begins. A construction permit has already been issued for it. The section affected by the unfavourable geodynamic processes identified back in 2020 is located after Blagoevgrad, in the direction of Sofia - Kulata. This was announced to the media today by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works architect Ivan Shishkov, who today inspected the construction works there. He expects that by the middle of the summer season the traffic on the motorway in one direction will be able to be launched. 80 million BGN will cost to carry out the works, and it is planned to build a retaining wall and a semi-tunnel curtain to secure the passage.

The Regional Minister commented that the environmental measures for the Struma motorway route between Kresna and Krupnik are still being worked on. There will be clarity on the timing there once a final decision is made on what route the road will be built in Kresna Gorge. All the options for crossing it are being examined. Minister Shishkov said he expects these measures to be adopted by May, with the Ministry of Environment and Water leading the process.

The Regional Minister was at the inspection together with his deputy Nikolay Shushkov, the Chairperson of the Board of the RIA Engineer Ventsislav Angelov and the member of the Management Board of the Agency Desislava Paunova.
