The rehabilitation of all road sections included in the project “Road access to tourism sites” has finished

Phare IA experts of MRDPW were present at the opening of the rehabilitated sector of the road Shiroka Laka – Gela with which the implementation of the project “Road access to tourism sites” finished officially. Rehabilitation of four-rated municipality roads accessing tourist sites in the North-East and South Central regions in Bulgaria has been carried out. The repaired roads are with total length of 146 km and belong to the territories of 10 districts: Smolyan, Haskovo, Kardjali, Pazardjik, Shoumen, Razgrad, Targovishte, Varna, Dobrich and Silistra. The funds are provided under Phare - ESC and from the state budget. The total amount of the construction works and the supervision over all the projects is MEUR 15. EU has provided MEUR 10 and the Bulgarian Government - over MEUR 5. With the successful completion of the project was facilitated and modernized the access to various tourist centers in the Rhodopes and on the Black Sea as well as to some cultural and historical landmarks in these regions. As a long-term effect of the project is expected a rise of the number of tourists and an increase of the tourist activity in the regions. Public Relations and International Activities Directorate
