The road infrastructure round Sofia will be maintained as before

We have to reassure the people – no one has ever raised the question for additional types of vignettes and there will never be such vignettes, announced the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Asen Gagauzov after a meeting with the Mayor of Sofia gen. Boyko Borisov. The road infrastructure round the capital city will be maintained as it used to be up to the present moment and the vignette signs will be put on places specially chosen not to cause losses and harms to people. Minister Gagauzov specified that the letter sent by Road Executive Agency to Sofia Municipality is a routine administrative procedure and its purpose is to define the relations between the state running the republican roads and the relevant municipalities. The municipality roads without vignette taxes have been maintained by the responding municipalities. MRDPW has very serious plans for investments in the Sofia infrastructure, added Minister Gagauzov. At the moment is running the procedure for awarding the design of the south archway of Sofia ring-road. It has been too long that the citizens of Sofia have been deceived that somebody is doing something for the south archway of Sofia ring-road and the restituted real estates around it cause a huge problem and will raise the expenses on the project several times, underlined Minister Asen Gagauzov. The calculations for the needed funds and the start of the work on the project are expected to be ready by the end of this year or the beginning of the next. The means for the south archway will be provided from the MRDPW budget. The plans envisage the widening of the ring-road into a motorway – with two road-lines plus an accident line in each direction. The work on the road segment is expected to take about two and a half years. The expropriation of the real estates now built round the south archway of the ring-road is an engagement of the Sofia Regional Governor and the Mayor of Sofia Municipality.
